Position  : Check Point Firewall Engineer
Location : Woodlawn MD
Duration : 6 Month Contract 

 

Must-haves
Bachelor degree in an IT related field with 6 years of firewall experience (or 8 years of experience without a degree)
Network troubleshooting experience (answering commands, firewall issues, fully understanding the entire network)
Experience working on a Linux o/s
Experience installing and maintaining Checkpoint firewalls (including evaluating logs and alerts)
Configuration experience with Juniper and/or Cisco routers
Experience with Cisco switches
Ability to use/ interrupt TCPDUMP, IPtrace, and other network analyzers
Experience with Nokia Hardware Appliance Firewalls
Ability to manage multiple firewalls (15 or more) on multiple hardware platforms and operating systems
Excellent written and communication skills (will be working with other techs and management to convey information and ideas)

 

Plusses
Experience with Checkpoint MDS manager (will use this to push updates to Firewall appliances)
Experience with any intrusion detection devices
Experience with Blue Coat content managers
Experience updating network diagrams with Visio
Any network certifications

 

Role
This person will be working on a team of 6 people supporting the SSA with the implementation, development, and maintenance of UNIX and Windows NT operating systems. They will also implement, develop, and maintain their Checkpoint firewalls, VPN (virtual private network), DNS (domain name server), BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Domain), search, video, and Web server software. They will help design the firewall architecture and monitor all firewall activities. They will also support and configure Juniper and/or Cisco routers. Experience with Nokia hardware is required because they will assist converting Nokia Hardware firewalls to Checkpoint hardware. After this conversion is complete, they will be responsible to maintain the firewalls. They will also be troubleshooting network problems over multiple network protocols (DHCP, DNS, LDAP, HTTP, NTP, SMTP, SNMP, BGP, IGRP, OSPF)
